Find a Recliner That Fits You

content

The right recliner should fit more than your living room—it should fit you. Choosing a recliner that's suited to your height is key to enjoying lasting comfort and proper support. Seat depth, back height, arm height and footrest length vary from one model to another. A recliner that's the right size helps promote a natural sitting position while providing better support for your back, legs and neck.

Many manufacturers, including La-Z-Boy and Stressless, offer recliners designed to fit different body types and heights. Whether you're 5'5" and under or 5'6", 6' and taller, you'll find a recliner designed to deliver the comfort and support that's right for you.

Recliners FAQ

What size recliner do you need?

A recliner should comfortably support your entire body whether you're sitting upright or fully reclined.

When seated, your feet should rest flat on the floor and your knees should form approximately a 90-degree angle. When the recliner is fully extended, your head and neck should remain comfortably supported by the backrest.

A recliner that's too deep may create pressure behind your knees, while one that's too small may not provide adequate support for your legs, back and neck. Choosing the right size helps maximize comfort and support for everyday use.

How much space should you leave behind a recliner?

The amount of clearance needed depends on the reclining mechanism. Traditional recliners typically require 12 to 18 inches of space behind the back to fully recline.

Some wall-hugger recliners can be placed much closer to the wall. They typically require only 4 to 6 inches of clearance. As the chair reclines, the seat glides forward instead of pushing the backrest farther away from the wall, making it an excellent choice for smaller spaces.

Always refer to the manufacturer's specifications to ensure your recliner will fit and operate properly in your space.

Can you customize a recliner?

Many manufacturers available at JC Perreault—including La-Z-Boy, Jaymar, Elran and Stressless—offer a variety of customization options.

Depending on the model, you can choose your upholstery, colour, leather or fabric, as well as select finishing details. Many recliners are also available with features such as power reclining, power lumbar support and power headrests, allowing you to create a recliner that's tailored to your comfort and your home.
